Thanksgiving

It wouldn't be a holiday weekend if we didn't include some outdoor activities (like woodcutting!).  2020 was weird and that translated into a weird woodcutting season for us...but things feel better and we're back to our old ways of hauling a log splitter and a dump trailer with us whenever we're headed to Freeport for a few days.

We joke about our choice to move to wood burning heat all the time - but honestly, this time outside in the woods working along side Ryan and Dad is really good for all of our souls (and our bodies too!).  It's nice to do a  little hard work before we all sit down to eat a million calorie meal.  And, the fresh air never hurt anyone!  Plus, we have another trailer full of wood to stack into our giant pile now.

Case in point, the THREE desserts we had for Thanksgiving.  That's a chocolate pecan pie, a brown butter maple pie (SO GOOD!) and a pumpkin poke cake that I know had some sort of liquor in it but I can't for the life of me remember right now.  It was all so. so. good...and that was just the desserts!

Man oh man was it nice to have us all back around one table again!  4 kids,7 adults...just like it was meant to be.  We had a lovely Thanksgiving and I know we aren't the only ones feeling like we're making up for lost time.

And of course, Thanksgiving weekend is the kick off to the Christmas season for us, and always includes gingerbread houses.  This year was the FIRST time in nine years that we plopped all the stuff on the table, spent 15 minutes getting the kids started and all the candy bags open and then we walked away and let them work on their own!  It was pretty nice to not have cramps in my hands from running the pastry bags for the littles :)

All in all, we had a great weekend and we're so thankful to just be together!
