Lake Winnebago with Chris and Julie

Earlier this year Chris and Julie asked us if we wanted to do a lake weekend with them at a new lake and it was the most fun trip.  We rented a baller house on Lake Winnebago and Chris and Julie brought their boat (which is so awesome and fun to have boat friends!).  We planned a long weekend just before school started and it was the perfect way to finish out our summer weekends before we jump into football season and cooler nights (and hopefully some camping even though we're newly a Friday Night Football Family).

It was so fun to explore a new lake and a new area of Wisconsin.  We're so used to camping, especially in the summer months, that an AirBnB felt both luxurious and also slightly strange.  The kids would ask "do we have...insert random item I have in the camper (our house on wheels) but of course do not have packed in our bags"...and I'd have to explain that we don't and we have to make due.  Funny to think of ourselves "making due" with the fancy AirBnB we had (it literally had everything), but we're so used to having our creature comforts in our house on wheels that we just aren't used to packing for AirBnB life.

This trip was the best mix of family, kids, relaxation, a slower pace with less plans and more go with the flow, along with laughs, good food and all around was a great few days.  We all felt like it was the perfect amount of time.  We arrived Thursday morning and left on Sunday.  That gave us nearly 3 full days of fun in the sun.  The weather was perfect, sunny, but not hot.

Unfortunately the winds were a little stronger than we'd have liked and the lake was pretty choppy for most of the trip, we had one great afternoon of still as glass water.  The boys both got up on the one-ski which was a "must do" of the trip.  But, the gnats were TERRIBLE that day.  As soon as we'd stop the boat, no matter how far or close to land we were the gnats would swarm.  There was no getting away from them....it was truly unfortunate because the ended up chasing us inside.  Little did we know that would be the best boat conditions we'd have.

But, we still had a great time and made the most of our trip.  Abby slayed at fishing, like always.  The kids swam, and lily padded, and stand up paddle boarded and kayaked.  We went to the state park (on the north side of the lake) one day and hiked.  We had a Friday night fish fry planned (at one of the local restaurants) but we ran out of motivation to get showered and drive over and ended up just cooking at home.

The house we rented had all kinds of fun stuff for kids.  There was a game room with a fuse ball table and air hockey, a basketball shooting game, a Play Station and even a rock climbing wall!  And, on top of that there was a full on theater room with stadium seating and a projector screen.  On our last night we had a family movie night and watched Jumanji II.  (Admittedly I fell sleep about 10 minutes into the movie, and then crawled into bed before it was over, but all that time in the sun and I was beat!)

It was the perfect little get away trip and I'm so thankful for Chris and Julie doing the hard work of planning it and inviting us to come along for the ride.
