We're getting a puppy!

It's true!  We're getting a puppy and we're pretty sure we're naming her Penny.  Copper and Penny...I mean...come on!  That's cute.  Too adorable to not.  The girls weren't immediately sold on the name, but a little less than a week away from meeting her for the first time and they've pretty much come around to the name.  Like Erin said, if we let them name her it would be something like PupPup or Sprinkles.

I've been searching for a breeder in the area for about 6 months now.  I knew we wanted a girl Golden and I was pretty sure I wanted a winter puppy because we're home so much more in the Jan-March months but when Williams Tree Farm emailed out that they had 3 litters all ready to go home mid to late July, Ryan convinced me that having the kids home all summer could be super helpful for the early days of potty training AND keep them busy with something to do while they are home all summer.

We had first choice of the females and there were four puppies we could choose between.  We ended up picking the darkest of the four.  The mom, Sunny was pretty small in stature, much smaller than Copper and much lighter colored.  The puppies at Williams have always been the light blonde ones so I'm expecting that she'll be more similar to Joey's golden, Taylor in color and size.  But!  These puppies were only 4ish weeks old, so its pretty hard to tell!

One thing I can tell you for sure though, is that these puppies are impossible to resist.  The girls were adorable.  We didn't tell them a single thing about what we were doing.  We told the kids Ryan needed to go check on a job and that we were going along and getting dinner together.  We loaded them in the truck and drove to Rockton.  When we walked in, it didn't take long for them to spy the puppies in the back room.  The lady there did a nice job of saying "so...what brings you out today" and let us lead the conversation.  I said "We're just here for Ryan to take a look at a job, but would it be ok if the girls see the puppies."  The handed each girl a puppy and they still had no idea what we were doing.  I think they were just excited to be holding a tiny pup.

Ryan and I finally asked them if they knew what we were doing there.  They just looked at us confused until I finally said "Do you think we should take one of these home with us?!"  Their faces were full of excitement and shock.  Abby had tears in her eyes!  They couldn't be happier....they've been asking for a puppy for a few years now and I've been slow rolling it knowing we'd have one more puppy in the house with the girls.  I'm pretty sure this will be the puppy they remember most when they look back on their childhood dog.  Hazel was 2 and Abby 5 when we got Copper and I think they were too young to remember him as a puppy.

Penny was born May 26th, 2025 (because I will 100% forget this later!).  She'll be 8 weeks on July 19th which is the exact same day as the girls joint pool birthday party with roughly 70 people so I think we'll wait another day or two to get her.  That many people all wanting to see the new puppy might be a little too much for a tiny pup.

We can not wait to bring her home!  The girls have a month of looking forward to having her in our lives.  Copper on the other hand, he doesn't know what's about to hit him.
