Back last fall there was lots of talk about how this winter was projected to be cold and snowy but, as we're half way through Jan, I'm here to say that the farmers almanac might have missed it this year. We had a few VERY cold days and we did have snow on the ground for Christmas...but when I look back at the last 3 or 4 months, I think it's been unseasonably warm and not nearly as snowy as we'd have hoped.
All that is to say that this year the opportunities for winter sports have been few and far between. Bummer since we picked up some used ice skates for the kids right after Christmas. But, a few weeks back it was finally cold enough for a few consecutive days and the "pond" in the back of Jamie and Zach's yard froze oven enough that we were able to skate.
Guys, did you know that this was my first ever family activity?! Kidding - of course, but Ryan sure did send more than my fair share of teasing my way over this activity. Hey, I'm in for most things...but winter and cold just are not my favorite. But, that being said, I did have a good time skating and I was better at it then I expected. Maybe this is my new hobby!?
Having a space to skate that is easy to get to, free and close to the warm house was great. The kids could skate for as long as they wanted and then head inside for hot chocolate and warm clothes when they got bored.
They guys are already scheming out they can create a homemade Zamboni to smooth out the ice - of course they are!
